Editorial Policy

How we research, write, and maintain every guide and review on The Sky Explorer.

Our Commitment to Accuracy

At The Sky Explorer, we hold ourselves to the highest standard of accuracy. If we recommend a telescope or accessory, it's because we genuinely believe it's the right choice for our readers — not because of affiliate commissions, free product samples, or advertising relationships.

Every factual claim on this site is verified against manufacturer specifications, independent testing data, and community consensus from experienced astronomers.

How We Research Products

Our research process for every buying guide and review includes:

  • Specification analysis — We examine objective specifications: aperture, focal length, focal ratio, optical coatings, mount payload capacity, and build materials.
  • Community research — We spend significant time in astronomy forums (Cloudy Nights, Stargazers Lounge, Reddit’s r/telescopes and r/astrophotography) understanding what real users report about products over time.
  • Hands-on experience — Where possible, we test products directly. We also draw on years of personal observing experience to understand how specifications translate to real-world performance.
  • Expert consultation — We consult with experienced amateur astronomers when evaluating advanced or specialized equipment.
  • Price tracking — We monitor prices to ensure our value assessments remain accurate over time.

Content Updates

The astronomy equipment market moves quickly. New products launch regularly, prices change, and older recommendations may become outdated. We commit to reviewing our major buying guides at least annually and more frequently when significant new products are released.

Every article displays a “Last Updated” date so you always know how current the information is.

Independence from Manufacturers

The Sky Explorer does not accept payment from manufacturers or retailers in exchange for positive coverage. We do not publish “sponsored content” disguised as editorial recommendations. Any sponsored or paid content would be clearly and prominently labeled — but we have chosen not to pursue this revenue model.

We occasionally receive products for review purposes. When this occurs, it is always disclosed in the article, and receipt of a free product has no bearing on our rating or recommendation.

Corrections Policy

We take corrections seriously. If you believe any content on The Sky Explorer contains a factual error, please contact us with the details. We investigate all reported errors and will update content and publish corrections promptly when errors are confirmed.

Expertise

Our content is produced by writers and editors with genuine astronomy backgrounds. We do not outsource content to general writers unfamiliar with the subject. Where specific technical expertise is required (e.g., astrophotography mounts, telescope optics), we involve people with direct experience in those areas.
